Truancy and Compulsory Education

Truancy – school non-attendance of children between ages of 12-17. The law allows the school district to direct the student (through his/her parent/guardian) to meet with school administration to discuss not-attendance issues.

Compulsory Education – school non-attendance of children between ages of 6-12. The law allows the school district to direct the student (through his/her parent/guardian) to meet with school administration to discuss non-attendance issues.

Canyons School District is committed to providing quality education to its students and is concerned when a child misses school for any reason.  The Canyons School District requires that all children achieve mastery in the basic skills identified for reading, language arts, and mathematics. Absence from School interferes with a child’s opportunity to master these skills.
